4 Easy Vegan Modak Recipes for Ganesh Chaturthi
Whether you bring an eco-friendly clay Ganesha to your home or head to a friend’s house for their pooja, why not try making these simple vegan modaks. They are great for gifts and also super yummy that you won’t be able to resist snacking on them while preparing.
1. DRY FRUITS MODAK
Ingredients
- 5-6 dates
- ½ cup roasted almonds
- ½ cup cashews
- ½ cup assortment of dry fruits
- ¼ cup maple syrup (optional)
- You’ll need a modak mould that you can buy here
- The recipe makes 5-6 modaks
Method
- Step 1: Remove the seeds from the dates
- Step 2: Put all the ingredients, roasted almonds, cashews and an assortment of dry fruits and dates in a grinder. Grind the ingredients until they form a doughy consistency. If you find that they aren’t binding add some more dates or few drops of maple syrup.
- Step 3: Remove the mixture and fill up the modak moulds.
- Step 4: Put them in the fridge to chill and set.
- Step 5: Remove from the mould and place them to serve.
Tastes best with black tea!
2. CHOCOLATE MODAKS

Ingredients
- 2-3 dark chocolate bars
- ½ cup almonds and cashews
- ½ cup raisins and cranberries
- You’ll also need a modak shaped chocolate mould .
- This recipe makes 6-8 modaks
Method
- Step 1: Begin with grating the vegan chocolate so that it will melt quicker. Put the chocolate over a double boiler, making sure no moisture gets into it. Alternatively, you can also put it in the microwave for bursts of 15-20secs stirring in between till chocolate melts completely.
- Step 2: Lightly grease the Modak Shaped chocolate mould with coconut oil to make sure the chocolate doesn't stick.
- Step 3: Pour the melted chocolate into the moulds.
- Step 4: Break the almonds, cashews, raisins and cranberry into chunks to fit into the mould.
- Step 5: Add the different dry fruits into the moulds before the chocolate is set.
- Step 6: Freeze it for 4-5 hours
- Remove the modaks from the mould and they are ready to be served.
3. BLONDIE MODAKS
Ingredients
- 4-5 vegan blondies (Try our vegan blondie recipe!)
- ½ cup hazelnuts
- 2 bars of dark vegan chocolate
- ½ cup maple syrup (optional)
- You will need a chocolate modak mould, buy here
- This recipe makes 10 to 12 modaks
Method
- Step 1: Crush vegan blondies and hazelnuts, and mix them together in a bowl. Roll the mixture into small balls. If the mixture isn’t sticking, add some maple syrup to the dough so it holds its shape.
- Step 2: Grate the chocolate bars and heat them in a double boiler or microwave (like mentioned above) until they’ve melted. Stir until it is smooth.
- Step 3: Pour the melted chocolate into the modak mould but make sure not to fill it up completely.
- Step 4: Add the small brownie balls and stuff them into each modak mould. Fill up the mould with melted chocolate.
- Step 5: Set in the fridge for an hour.
- Remove the modaks from the mould and enjoy your blondie modaks.
4. PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE MODAKS
All you’ll need is our vegan peanut butter fudge recipe and the moulds mentioned above. Simply prepare the batter as stated in the recipe and then press it into the moulds. Keep them in the fridge for 2-4 hours till it sets.
