'A Big Indian Story' Introduces Pineapple Leather Products In India

As cruelty-free fashion is gaining more ground, for both environmental and ethical reasons, more brands are emerging with vegan alternatives for clothing and accessories. This year, a fashion brand called A Big Indian Story introduced products made of vegan leather called ‘Pinatex’ which is created from pineapple leaf fibre.

This is a big step forward for the vegan fashion industry in India as Pinatex is a natural and sustainable leather alternative. A Big Indian Story is the first company in India to launch Pinatex products. They have previously worked with sustainable textiles including cactus leather, hemp, and Texon.

A Big Indian Story is a sustainable fashion brand which works with local artisans and craftsmen to create products with a traditional Indian touch. Their collection includes handcrafted bags, jewelry, wallets, footwear, quilts, diaries and other accessories – all made from sustainable material.

The animal agriculture industry is a highly unsustainable sector and a leading contributor to carbon and methane emissions. Leather is a by-product of this industry and is extremely harmful, but growing vegan textiles present an eco-friendly and ethical alternative.
