Anushka Sharma Explores Plant-Based Recipes
27 January 2021
According to The Times of India, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has adopted a plant-based diet. The newspaper announced this on Tuesday, along with a few veganized versions of classic Indian dessert recipes.
The actress has been vegetarian since 2015. In 2019, she tweeted about the Netflix documentary The Game Changers: "Since I turned vegetarian, the question I'm asked the most is 'Where do you get your protein from?'. The film, The Game Changers on Netflix is my answer to all those questions forever. But seriously, I just watched this film and it's an eye-opener... It helps you a great deal related to understanding fitness and beyond. Love and light always!"
The documentary gives an insight into the impact of animal products on the human body and the misconception regarding low protein intake on a plant-based diet. Starring famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and athletes including Lewis Hamilton, the documentary has been rudimentary in exploring the idea of health and fitness on a plant-based diet.
Sharma married the Captain of the Indian Cricket team Virat Kohli in 2017, who also turned vegetarian soon after. Kohli also tweeted about The Game Changers in 2019: "Saw game changers on Netflix. Being a vegetarian athlete has made me realise what I have believed all these years regarding diet was a myth. What an amazing documentary and yes I’ve never felt better in my life after I turned vegetarian."
Kohli turned plant-based in 2020 after suffering from a cervical spine issue.
Sharma is currently in her last month of pregnancy. Although she hasn't confirmed this news, her shift to a plant-based diet can be effective in debunking doubts related to health and nutrition that come with the idea of eating plant-based, especially at such a critical stage.
