Why plant-based meat?

The environmental repercussions of animal farming are not unknown to us. Factory Farming of meat animals is the single largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and global hunger as nearly 70% of global agricultural produce is used to feed meat animals to speed up their growth. Moreover, there is the cost of your own health as you pay tax for pesticide subsidies.

“Industrial animal farming for the sake of meat and milk products is a big contributor to global warming! As a pharmaceutical  executive we keep curing patients but who will cure the planet and put an end to this menace[?] Animal agriculture at industrial level is causing even antibiotic resistance!” says Sandeep Singh, the co-founder of Blue Tribe. “At the same time, I know that humans will not stop eating meat products. What we need is that we replicate the experience of meat without getting it from [the] animal. Science has made progress that we can replicate meat with advancement in food science that we can get meat from plants.”

The product and team

Blue Tribe Foods has aimed to create food products that people can enjoy, but not at the cost of our little blue planet. It is a venture co-founded by Sandeep Singh, MD and promoter of Alkem Laboratories, and Niki Arora Singh, a pharmaceutical professional. Blue Tribe plans to replace the usage of animal meat in industrial food production in India and veganize many existing food options and bring them to the mainstream. The company carries out their own Research & Development and manufacturing.

Growth in Indian market

"Blue Tribe is a wholesome approach to the future of meat consumption in India. We want our products to hold a place in our consumers' households. Blue Tribe offers a safe and healthy alternative to promote clean eating without having to worry about the animals harmed in the process. Our products are 100% animal-free, yet high in protein and super delicious," stated Sohil Wazir, Chief Commercial Officer at Blue Tribe Foods.

The brand is targeting millennials who are concerned about their food choices. Blue Tribe Foods have formulated products that replicate the same attributes as regular meat but are made from plants.

“We are not for vegans, we are for meat eaters! We want our product to be indistinguishable from animal source meat. So that the flexitarian and the thinking consumer can make a better choice for the planet. Counterparts are available but ours is strictly not comparable, as we sell just like meat. Frozen and in real meat form. Ours is a cold chain product like meat!” Singh told Vegan First.

Future Plans

The brand also wishes to partner with restaurants in the future and make plant-based meat a norm in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian eating spaces. They are all set to launch into the market with ready-to-cook vegan substitutes for meat products that match animal meat in terms of nutrient profile as well as taste.

“We are comparable to meat nutrition wise minus the cholesterol. We are a better meat. In our Plant-based chicken nugget, our sodium levels are also much lower compared to [the] traditional chicken nugget.” Singh explained. “When the history of plant-based meat is written in India, Blue Tribe must be the driver, the catalyst. We will usher [in] a new era in which meat need not come from animals.”

“Just like the car replaced the Chariot, plant-based meat will replace animal-based meat. It is imperative that we replace animals from the food chain for our coming generations. Spanish Flu and now Covid-19 all came from industrial farming of animals.”
