As part of the conscious eating program, the municipality of Salvador has signed an agreement with the Humane Society International, and Mercy For Animals to launch the Educating for Sustainability program in municipal schools.

This will bring more than 10 million plant-based meals to 170,000 students.

The meals will include more beans, vegetables, fruits and grains for the students. The recipes were developed keeping in mind the culture and availability of the region.

“The idea is to instill and create long-term changes in students’ eating habits,” says Municipal Secretary of Education, Marcelo Oliveira. This commitment will also help Salvador meet the climate and sustainability goals that have been established by Brazil and International authorities.
