According to a study by the Met Office, the UK has experienced never before climate fluctuation last year, in 2020. The report says it was the warmest year and the fifth wettest, and eighth sunniest ever recorded. So what are the people of Britain doing about this? Though there have to be stringent regulations and laws that govern various activities of not just residents of the UK but also the industries there. However, people are eager to do their part now that ‘Climate Anxiety’ has become a common term in use.

Owing to this, the Imperial College London put down a list of 9 things that individuals can do to help control the rapidly changing climate. This includes driving less, cutting down on flying, avoiding single-use products, and ditching fast fashion.

Owing to this, plant-based has also become widely accepted now in Britain. Studies show that the number of people eating and drinking plant-based alternatives has increased and twice for over a decade now. This shows that people in the UK are making better choices not just for health but for the planet as well.

A study conducted by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) with partners at Oxford University and using UK consumption data from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey 2008-2019 shows how plant-based diets are becoming more popular in the UK.

Millennials, Generation X, and Generation Z have increased in choosing plant-based alternatives for dairy milk.

Also, the demand and consumption of plant-based meat have increased to 7 % from 4.6% and that of plant milk increased to 7.4% from 2.3%. Also, the study shows women are more likely to choose plant-based options by 46% than men. The research also said that groups with higher income have started choosing plant-based alternatives.

Not only in the UK but people across the world are adopting plant-based diets and shifting to better lifestyle choices. Several plant-based food joints and restaurants have also opened in the recent past in the UK. The UK government also said they are aiming to cut down net GHG emissions by 100% by 2050. The UK Climate Change Committee also recommends its people reduce high carbon meant and dairy products by 20% by 2030 and there aim to increase the number until 2050.
