4th December, 2022
There are numerous methods to adopt a vegan lifestyle. However, for most people, being a vegan is a lifestyle choice rather than just a dietary one. Vegans avoid eating and using any products that use or contain animal products or components. Therefore, it is critical for restaurant owners to accept the fact that for an increasing number of the public, improving one's health is a major factor in anyone's decision to become vegan. One of the restaurants who seem to have grasped this concept by offering vegan food is Burma Burma. Their motto is to serve authentic Burmese food to foodies at the Burma Burma Restaurant and Tea Room. The eatery combines the genuine flavour and cookery of Myanmar with a view into the local way of life.
Now in some exciting news, the network of acclaimed vegan restaurants in Burma, has raised $2 million in seed capital, with Negen Capital as the lead investor. Bbigplas Poly Pvt. Ltd. and a few angel investors, including investment bankers Sarthak Ahuja and Aditi Randev, took part in the funding round as well. Read on to know more about the heartening move.
The brand’s unique journey
Burma Burma was founded by Ankit Gupta and Chirag Chhajer with the goal of introducing everyone to Burmese food. The company is currently achieving its goal of becoming more than just a restaurant and giving customers a fresh, nutritious, and creative dining experience that engages them on different levels. The co-founder expressed that he is pleased to see that India has not only welcomed but really appreciated the genuine Burmese flavour, which has up until now been unknown to the rest of the world.
Burma Burma co-founders share their two cents on the move
Ankit Gupta, co-founder of Burma Burma, commented on the first funding round by saying, "I grew up eating the Burmese foods we serve at Burma Burma, as my mother learned these recipes while growing up in Burma before the exodus in the 1960s."
"After nine years in business, we have extensively evaluated the demand for Burmese food in all 4 Indian market zones throughout 6 Indian cities,” added Chirag Chhajer, co-founder of Burma Burma. "With this round, we're committed to entering new cities and growing our base in existing ones. We are now more prepared than ever to take Burma outside India with our team of 450+ members,” Chhajer explained.
The investors share their take on the decision
Jigar Shah, Director of Negen Capital, commented on their choice to invest in Burma Burma, saying, "Burma Burma is a wonderful fit for a fund like Negen Capital. a very powerful brand name, profitable niche. We are extremely sure that Burma Burma will be able to scale further with our growth capital since we believe in the food sector of India and its growth trajectory.”
What’s next on the horizon for the company
Burma Burma is on the route to realising its aim of popularising Burmese cuisine and assisting the bold flavours to travel to its customers with Burma Burma Pantry Retail Products among their India- wide operations. The restaurant business, which began in 2014 in the heart of Mumbai and swiftly extended to the other five metros of Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Bangalore, and Kolkata, is hoping to increase its presence across the nation. The restaurant franchise plans to add 8 new locations within the next 15 months, bringing the total to 14.
If you are a considering opening a restaurant of being in the food business, then the most crucial thing to keep in mind is that becoming a vegan is a lifestyle choice. As a result, customers will associate you with your brand and not just the cuisine you offer. It won't be simple to open a new vegan restaurant or make your current establishment vegan-friendly. But it will be worthwhile to take on the challenge.
