Human Trials Are The Way Forward, Let’s Leave The Animals Alone

As we’re all aware, Corona virus has taken over the world and caused us all to come to a standstill. As countries have been struggling with overflowing hospitals and overworked health care professionals, some have been working hard behind the scenes to quickly come up with a vaccine to contain this virus. However, given the emergency we’re faced with globally, the trials for the vaccination went directly to humans, skipping animals for testing.

For many years now, animals activists have been repeatedly putting forth the point that animal testing is pointless - purely because they incredibly slow down the process and take longer to produce results and cures for human diseases. Putting animals through intense torture in labs that include poisoning, killing, burning, opening skulls, repeatedly exposing them to chemicals has been nothing less than cruel and inhuman in every sense. Animals cannot consent to something like this, and even if they could, we highly doubt they’d say yes. Apart from that, animal testing also is expensive and is a drain on the finances since it’s also time consuming.

For the vaccine against Corona, 45 volunteers from the US have stepped up to be volunteers for the testing. The National Institute of Health (NIH) isn’t going to wait for the lengthy process of animal testing and has skipped directly to the ones who will be consuming the end product vaccine - humans.

How are they trying to come up with a vaccine? Take a look at this interesting video by WSJ.

The first batch of testing is still on, and it could still take anywhere between 16-18 months of the vaccine to be fully developed and released to the public. While we are not sure of whether animal testing would be involved in the months to come, this is still a great start. Animals cannot consent, and we cannot take advantage of that. Let’s never stop fighting for the voiceless!

Hope you are are taking necessary precautions. Stay Safe.
