Renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough's entry to Instagram turned out to be a record-shattering debut as the veteran BBC broadcaster became the fastest person to reach a million followers on Instagram! (a record that was previously held by actress Jennifer Aniston). The 94-year-old naturalist's Instagram account reached 10 lakh followers in the first four hours. In his first post, he spoke about the immediate need to protect the planet. The video post went viral and raked in 1.65 crore views and got about 50,000 comments within the first two days! The veteran wildlife filmmaker announced that he would use the social media platform to talk about burning issues plaguing the planet and to "record messages to explain what the problems are and what how we can deal with them". In his latest interviews, Attenborough has been vocal about humanity's need to cut back on meat or switch to a plant-based diet, and plant more forests, to save the planet.

The veteran broadcaster also reportedly speaks about the immediate need to stop and reduce our intake of meat to save earth, in his  upcoming movie titled 'David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet' that he's actively promoting on his Insta account. With the massive fan following behind him, we expect the veteran who was conferred with the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize earlier this month, to lead to play a key role in influencing young minds to understand the link between the meat industry and its far-reaching damaging environmental impacts.

Here's the veteran naturalist's Instagram debut post:

David Attenborough has spent a lifetime travelling, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. He’s also witnessed the damaged caused. Saving our planet is now a communications challenge. We know what to do, we just need the will. That’s why we want to share this message on Instagram. Because there is hope and together, we can inspire change. Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat so while he’s recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we're helping to run this account. In case you’re wondering, ‘we’ are Jonnie and Colin and we worked with David on A Life On Our Planet. So, as well as sharing the messages he’s recorded especially for this account we’ll also post some exclusive clips and behind the scenes content. Stay tuned.
