Musician Drake has joined an investment round for Daring Foods, a plant-based chicken company, along with D1 Capital Partners. Based in Los Angeles, Daring Foods has announced a $40 million series B funding round.

The brand introduced its products in the market in 2020 alongside Rastelli Foods Group. Rastelli Foods Group also invested $10 million in Daring Foods for infrastructure prior to this round.

“The first wave of plant-based was really focused on taste and texture, but then you had the sacrifice of other elements, like health,” said Ross Mackay, Co-Founder and CEO, Daring Foods.

Drake announced on social media in 2018 that he has quit eating meat. According to sources, he is currently following a plant-based diet.

Celebrities have been catching up with the plant-based trend lately. Influential figures like Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo di Caprio and musicians like Jay-Z and Katy Perry have invested in plant-based companies as well. This year, Avengers star Robert Downey Jr. also joined a funding round for a plant-based bacon company.
