Few people know that the roots of the beloved biryani that’s served as a festive treat in a lot of Indian homes, lie in a land far away. Explorers originally brought biryani to India after it was first created in Iran. Today, it has evolved into a beloved and traditional dish that is popular on a global scale. Almost all eateries often feature biryani on their menus and there are many health advantages of eating vegan biryani. It's a common component of healthier diets. Additionally, it is a great source of nutrition and can support a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons that prompted actress Fatima Sana Shaikh, famed for roles in films like "Dangal," "Ludo," and others to arrange a very special treat in store for Delhi residents.

In an effort to promote kindness and wellness the leading actress made the decision to donate vegan biryani to 1,000 people in need at the Bengali Basti in Vasant Kunj. As Eid ul-Adha falls on June 28 or June 29, depending on whether the moon is visible, she went ahead and made the donation through PETA ahead of the festival. Additionally, the Dangal actress provided people with vegan chocolate milk. Read on to know more about the initiative.

The actress shares her thoughts on the initiative

Muslims who are vegetarian or vegan, as well as others, observe Eid ul-Adha by giving away vegan food or providing assistance to the needy without using any animals because they care about the welfare of animals, people's health, and the environment. Fatima Sana Shaikh, a vegetarian by choice, said of the occasion, "I'm thrilled to observe Eid ul-Adha with my friends at PETA India. We want to foster love and wellness by giving away vegan biryani to those in need.”

PETA India Advocacy Officer gives his insight on the move

“It is commanded unto us to eat what is halal and tayyib (permissible and good natured), which means food that is not only lawful but also wholesome and ethically sourced. And by no means is meat today produced ethically,” says PETA India Advocacy Officer Farhat Ul Ain. “Muslims, like members of all communities, are increasingly going vegan to save others’ lives and our own.”

The goal of the generous act was to promote goodwill and health awareness. Fatima Sana Shaikh will soon be seen in the films "Sam Bahadur" and "Dhak Dhak," on the silver screen.
