22-year-old Abhay Rangan, founder of Goodmylk, is the youngest Indian to make it to the Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 list, and we couldn't be happier! It's a big win for the vegan ecosystem in India, to have a changemaker recognized on a global level.

Goodmylk is a Bangalore-based startup that manufactures and home-delivers vegan milk and curd from oats, cashews and peanuts. They offer oat and cashew milk, peanut curd and vegan butter.

Says Rangan,

"I'm beyond honoured to have made the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia list for 2019. At 22, I am the youngest Indian on this list. It's exciting to see that there is recognition for the work we've set out to do- making plant-based food affordable and accessible in India. I am overwhelmed with gratitude today- every single mentor, vendor, team member, investor, family member, customer and well-wisher- this is for you. You have propelled us to challenge ourselves and consistently stay true to our promise...as happy as I am, tomorrow it's back to work as usual. True success is when we are able to take on dairy at scale and win."

Rangan has been an animal rights activist since the age of 16, when he founded a non-profit. He ran that for two years and it's during that time that the idea for Goodmylk took shape.  A common argument he encountered while campaigning was that vegan food was expensive - so he set out to make affordable dairy alternatives.

Rangan and his mother launched Goodmylk in 2016 out of their home kitchen, using blenders, pots and pans, with Rangan personally delivering the products. Rangan used to travel 400+ kilometres every week, making home deliveries of mylk and curd on his two-wheeler. The first 1000-odd litres were all made at home, by hand. Rangan says that at that point, they didn't have the option to outsource manufacturing since they were a small company.

In 2018, Goodmylk received Rs. 2.5 cr in funding from investors, which allowed them to scale up. Today, they've moved into a manufacturing facility, have hired a COO and logistics team, and supply to thousands of families, offering non-dairy mylk and curd. (They are among a handful of companies making vegan curd in India.)  Here's to bigger and better things for Rangan and the Goodmylk team!
