Furry, Four-Legged Family Members Are Coming Back With Indian Students From Ukraine

Ever since the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict has displaced millions of people, the silent sufferers of humanity’s deeds are often ignored. Not many people talk about or focus on the animals that suffer during wars. The animals that share the war-torn cities are often collateral damage. But some Indian students are refusing to leave them behind.

The Indian Government is doing its best for the safe return of its students and citizens back to India. They are now facing requests to also bring back companion animals who have become like family members to the students.

20-year-old MBBS student, Arya Aldrin from Idukki, Kerala was stranded and refused to leave with her dog Saira. She got all the necessary documents in order for her dog much before the crisis started. But she was stopped at the Ukrainian border because she had the dog with her, according to some reports.

She was finally allowed to go through when she refused to relent. Even the education minister from Kerala, V Sivankutty, praised Arya in a Facebook post for her love and determination towards her dog. Arya has arrived in Delhi via Romania and is making her way to Kerala.

Another student, 22-year-old, Rishabh Kaushik had drawn the attention of animal welfare organizations in India after his pleas to allow his rescued puppy Maliboo to return to India with him. In an Instagram post, he describes being harassed for documentation for the dog even though he has provided the officials with everything that he possibly can.

As per the latest update, Rishabh has been able to reach Hungary after his appeals went viral and will now be making his way to India from there.

But these are just two of the many stories and images that have taken over the internet in the past few days. Many people have been photographed taking shelter in the bunkers with their cats and dogs. Many have been able to escape safely with their animals in tow.

Anyone with a companion animal will agree that they are much more than animals who share the homes with humans. They become an integral part of the families they live with.

These stories of passionate students who are bringing back their companion animals go to show how much the animals mean to them, enough for them to risk their lives.
