Each year, the world's leather business murders millions of delicate, intellectual animals in addition to more than 1.4 billion cows, goats, and sheep. In India, animals that are used for leather are frequently crowded into vans in such a way that many suffer severe injuries or pass away en route. After being hauled inside slaughterhouses, animals are sliced open in front of one another on floors covered in faeces, blood, guts, and urine. This is precisely why it is important that PETA India collaborates with fashion industry businesses and designers to bring you animal-friendly looks. And JADE is delivering the gift of thoughtful luxury to today's consumers with PETA-Approved Vegan items.

“As a proud homegrown label, JADE has embraced the epochal ahimsic Gandhian values of mindfulness, compassion, and respect for all life forms,” affirms fashion designer Monica Shah. adding, “As our vegan pieces show you can create stunning, one-of-a-kind, luxurious products without harming any animal.”

The brand’s intriguing journey so far

The Jade by Monica and Karishma studios, a well-known bridal wear company, are always cooking up something interesting. Their year got off to a fast start. Some of their hand-embroidered fabrics were transformed into art installations in January, which served as the stage backdrop for Dior's haute couture Spring/Summer 2022 presentation. When Shibani Dandekar married Farhan Akhtar in February, she wore one of their most unconventional yet stunning Chantilly lace lehengas. And, how can anyone forget Nayanthara's ruby crimson embroidered bridal gown? But the renegade designers have just revealed their newest accessory line, dubbed "Made for Love."

Luxury accessories go cruelty-free

The aesthetic of Monica and Karishma Swali has been regarded as exquisite and unorthodox. The pair used their knowledge of design to create the items while keeping these things in mind. One of the highlights would be how they reinterpreted the silver clutches that are sold in handicraft stores all around the nation in an antique manner. However, the reality is that this is an outcome of their cooperation with PETA India. They are now ensuring that luxury goes cruelty-free and vegan; this should be the main point of attention!

“My commitment to cruelty-free luxury and a design process of mindfulness that celebrates life has inspired this PETA-certified vegan luxury accessory line. Each piece reflects undying passion for craft, vintage regalia, and handmade luxe infused with global sensibilities,” shares Monica Shah, adding that, “The collection uses vegan leather, natural fabrics, dyes, and traditional techniques of craftsmanship to create artisanal collectables that will endure the test of time.”

Words of wisdom from co-founder Monica Shah

Some of the minaudieres feature Meenakari work while others are plated with 18-carat gold. “This collection has versatile and timeless products crafted by indigenous brass smiths and silversmiths from central and eastern parts of India. The collection is about living in harmony, with ourselves as well as the world at large. We have incorporated chakra motifs to facilitate ease of being able to connect with one’s spiritual self through these collectables,” she explains.

Specifics of their collection

Their embellished macramé and leather belts, unconventional shapes, and malachite stone closures give the classic antique silver bags a modern makeover. The collection also includes a variety of handcrafted totes, envelopes, fringed bags, mules, and bracelets in addition to the minaudieres. The brand's master brazier handcrafts the metal frames for the tassel bags. In order to create various patterns, colourful beads are used to string the tassels.

The Irene purse, which features vivid red embroidery and matching beadwork on a deep blue denim fabric set inside a golden frame, is one of the most stunning items. Beads strung together and stitched in a scalloped pattern add detail to the edges.

The ingenuity of the PETA Approved Vegan emblem

The brilliant PETA Approved Vegan emblem, which is appearing on products everywhere, makes it simple to identify animal-friendly products at a glance. The certification verifies products produced of vegan materials, as opposed to those derived from animals, such as leather, silk, wool, fur, and feathers, as purses, shoes, apparel, accessories, furniture, and home décor.

PETA India’s insight on the project

Monica Chopra, PETA India’s Senior Media and Celebrity Projects Coordinator shares her two cents on the subject, saying, “JADE by Monica and Karishma was one of 33 leading designers/designer brands that pledged to be leather-free, and as a conscious couture label, their deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and cruelty-free luxury led them to launch their first vegan premium accessory line in association with PETA India.”

“Love for animals and our planet, and a rejection of violence and cruelty, is the ethos based on which PETA India was established, an ethic we share with JADE, a leather-free brand. JADE shows true luxury means wearing kindness on one’s sleeves. Every single stitch, accent, and bead in JADE’s handcrafted vegan fashions and accessories reflects the brand’s compassion for animals,” she signs off on a positive note.
