Hemp Protein - The Future Is Here
If you’re vegan, you know there’s no dearth of plant-based protein out there. You probably already have half a dozen varieties of plant-based protein in your pantry. But do you have hemp protein? If you don’t, it’s time to get your hands on some – because hemp powder is THE protein powder of the future, for plant-based eaters, clean eaters and pretty much everyone.
How Hemp Stacks Up
It’s 100% vegan and plant-based, for starters. But hemp packs a punch because its protein content is far superior to other vegan protein sources.
- 25% of the total calories in hemp seeds are from high-quality protein
- In chia and flax seeds, only 16-18% of the total calories account for protein
- Hemp protein is low in saturated fat compared to dairy and red meat
- One of the easiest forms of protein to digest
- Hemp is one of the few plant proteins that contains all 9 essential amino acids
Good For You, Good For The Environment
If you’re looking to increase your protein intake from a natural and vegan source, then hemp protein powder just might be the perfect choice for you.
More than 25% of the total calories in hemp seeds are from high-quality protein, considerably more than similar foods like chia seeds and flaxseeds, which provide about 16–18%.
If you’re really looking to go green, get yourself hemp that’s closer to home (after all, India has a long history of using hemp products), instead of imported seeds and oils. There aren’t too many companies sourcing and making edible hemp products in India, but we chanced upon Health Horizons, the sole brand to manufacture hemp consumables in India.

Useful From Root To Tip
It represents root-to-tip usage better than any other plant species. There’s little that can’t be used (and little that can’t be made), from the hemp plant. Here’s a rundown of where are how hemp can be used:
- Fabric: Cloth made from hemp is as soft as linen and as durable as denim! Plus, it is much less water and chemical-intensive when compared with cotton.
- Stationery: Hemp pulp is an alternative to paper. While the processing is more expensive, in the long run, it saves trees and is less polluting. Hemp pulp is lighter than wood pulp and needs less bleaching.
- Construction: Hemp fibre is mixed with lime to create rock-solid building supplies that are as tough as concrete + carbon neutral
- Oil: Hemp oil is a great source of arginine and gamma-linolenic acid, which has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease. It has a 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3, which is better than flax seeds which have a 1:3 ratio.

In addition to all of the above, hemp also happens to be carbon-negative. It grows through natural photosynthesis but absorbs CO2 as it grows.
And this, coupled with the fact that it's a superfood makes it one of the most planet-friendly plants – so get your dose of hemp today!
