Hindustan Times says that Milk may cause Infertility

For years, vegans have been trying to spread the truth about dairy consumption and the industry, however, when a population has been fed fallacies that milk is good for you, it’s often difficult to refute. Advertisements and newspapers are constantly telling us that dairy products are good for the body and our health. However, recently an article in the Hindustan Times decided to shed some light on the truth about consuming dairy. Finally, a newspaper that we can agree with.

In the article, they go on to say that the steroids and hormone injections given to the cows are tampering with the milk which is causing a whole host of health concerns. According to Dr. Arvind Vaid, Chief Infertility & IVF Specialist, Indira IVF Hospital, oxytocin is one of those hormones that gets consumed in the body. He mentions in the article, that oxytocin causes “early puberty, development of breast in males and lack of testosterone production due to hormonal imbalance,”.

If that wasn’t alarming enough, he says that pregnant women consuming milk may increase the chance of their babies being born with deformities; it could lead to abortion and put the mothers at risk for a haemorrhage after birth.

It’s best to avoid milk if you are trying to conceive, as the article also states that ‘It is a general thought among us that milk is a rich source of calcium, but we tend to overlook the other components. Hormones like prolactin, lutenizing hormone(LH), estrogens, progesterone, oxytocin, growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone are present in the milk which may cause hormonal imbalance leading to infertility in humans as well.’ Additionally, it goes on to say that consumption of milk can hamper the production of cervical mucus, which helps the sperm reach the fallopian tube, and makes the vaginal lining a hospitable place for implantation. So, why not swap that glass of milk for spinach, tofu, figs etc. In fact, we have a very informative article on calcium and its alternatives, if you’re interested in finding out about substitutes, we strongly suggest reading our article.

We're glad the Hindustan Times has put out a piece on the effects of dairy consumption. In fact, here on Vegan First, we have actual accounts of people giving up dairy, going vegan and seeing drastic positive changes in their health and their bodies. Many of the people we’ve spoken to say that they immediately feel an increased amount of energy and see a reversal of lifestyle illnesses such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

What the Hindustan Times fails to mention, however, is the horrific practices of how dairy is actually procured. The tragic conditions, treatment and cruelty towards animals is reason enough to give up dairy. Whatever the reason you wish to give it up, we applaud you, as this small change will not only change your life, but will enhance the well being of our environment and our animals.
