Mumbai-based plant-based egg start-up, EVO Foods is showcasing its vegan eggs outside India for the first time.

EVO Food was founded in 2019 in Mumbai and currently has two egg alternatives in the pipeline- a plant-based boiled egg and a plant-based whole liquid egg.

In 2020, EVO Food received Angel Investment from Wild Earth co- founder Ryan Bethencourt who also joined them as an advisor.

Founding partners Kartik Dixit and Shraddha Bhansali both believe that the egg is a grey area in the Indian market. “Considered as veg and non-veg both my different communities and cultures. Doctors recommend it as a protein source, but cholesterol is an issue for most people. We want people to have it just like an egg without cholesterol, salmonella risk, and cruelty,” Dixit and Bhansali reported to Vegan First during their early days.

INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE

Their first-ever international showcase will be in San Francisco.

Shraddha says “we are organising our first ever product showcase in the USA in San Francisco to present EVO's game changing plant-based liquid egg and the world's first heat-stable plant-based boiled egg in a variety of cuisines and recipes created by an expert plant based chef.”

On being asked why they picked San Francisco, they say, “it is the hub for innovation and future-forward companies- so we wanted our first showcase to be here.”

The showcase is meant to present their products to investors, journalists, restaurateurs and retailers.

Shraddha adds, “even if there are any enthusiasts based in the Silicon Valley who would like to taste and feel the future of sustainable eggs then this showcase is for them.”

The showcase is planned for the 27th of April at We Work, Waterfront Plaza, Sanfrancisco between 6pm and 8pm.

EVO plans to launch its plant-based boiled egg in New York and LA via restaurants and retail in October 2022.

INDIA PLANS

The EVO plant-based boiled is slated to launch in the first week of May 2022 in restaurants across Mumbai. Their plant-based whole liquid egg is currently being scaled up before launch.

They are also currently working on multiple products in the egg alternative spectrum.

When we asked Shraddha what is her favourite way to have the EVO egg alternative, she says, “I love to eat the EVO boiled egg patty toasted in an English muffin bun with vegan mayo, sriracha mayo, onions and jalapenos.”

Needless to say, the vegans of India are waiting for this one!
