Music Mogul And Britain's Got Talent Judge Simon Cowell Switches To A Vegan Diet

Simon Cowell - former American Idol Judge, currently on Britain’s Got Talent – has adopted a vegan diet just ahead of his 60thbirthday.

The music mogul who is known for not mincing words on air – has given up his meat-heavy diet in favour of a healthy plant-based diet. In an interview with The Sun, he details how he has given up meat, dairy, wheat and sugar, and fish.

What prompted the move to make healthier choices was a terrible fall down the stairs that happened in late 2017 – he was rushed to the hospital and had to hit the reset button on his unhealthy lifestyle, which included alcohol, cigarettes and staying awake through the night.

Cowell was also dealing with multiple food allergies, and what started as a way to deal with that turned into a complete lifestyle overhaul. He said that the shift was easier than he imagined. Instead of dairy, he uses almond milk and almond yogurt for his morning tea and breakfast.

“I noticed a massive difference in how I felt in about a week…I have more energy and focus and it wasn’t difficult. I don’t like to use the word diet because that’s the reason I never went on a diet before — the word diet makes me miserable.”

Says Cowell, "I cut out a lot of the stuff I shouldn't have been eating and that was primarily meat, dairy, wheat, sugar - those were the four main things... I loved those comfort foods, that’s all I’ve eaten all my life. I love jam tarts, hamburgers, spaghetti Bolognese. I can eat fish but this year I will go the whole way.”

While Cowell’s motivations are health-based, he has stood up for the cause of animals and involved himself in advocacy work in the past, particularly dogs. In October of last year, Cowell donated $32,640 to the Humane Society to help close down a South Korean dog meat farm. And a recent Instagram post is a picture of Daisy, a dog rescued all the way from Barbados.
