Paraveganio- The World’s First Vegan Certified Paracetamol

When it comes to medications, there are not too many ways to find the origins of the ingredients used. This means that whatever is prescribed or recommended is usually taken without much consideration. This is an ethical dilemma for people seeking to avoid animal-origin ingredients in their medicines.

A brand of a commonly used painkiller, paracetamol- with estimated market size of $126 million, has now received a vegan certification thanks to the efforts of a German-based company.

Paracetamol usually consists of magnesium stearate which is a salt of stearic acid and magnesium. Not many people know that magnesium stearate could be derived from animals like pigs, sheep, and cows.

POP A VEGAN CERTIFIED PARACETAMOL

Hamburg-based axunio has created a paracetamol tablet, called Paraveganio, ensuring that the formulation is fully plant-based and has even gone ahead and received a certification from The Vegan Society. This is the first time that a medical product has been certified vegan.

Paraveganio contains 500mg of the active ingredient paracetamol and is equally effective as any other paracetamol.

MAKE MEDICINES VEGAN

Currently, by its own estimates, over 75% of the medications available in the UK contain animal-derived ingredients. This pushed them to start a campaign titled Make Medicines Vegan. With axunio spearheading the move to make medicines vegan-friendly,

the other pharmaceuticals will follow suit and more people will have access to animal-free medications.
