PETA India Teams Up With Schoolkids For Vegan Protest
The vegan movement in India is growing, and it looks like it’s never too early to start caring about the environment and animals. That’s exactly what PETA India and children of Wise Roots World School demonstrated earlier this week at a protest in Pune.
Several children from the school gathered at FC Road in Pune wearing calf and chick costumes, bearing placards that read “Eat Vegan For My Future”, to draw attention to the negative impact of animal agriculture.
Wise Roots World School is a holistic learning centre that focuses on an integrated approach to teaching children, via the three pillars of health, nutrition and education. They also advocate and follow a plant-based meal plan for their students.
“These children know that the global demand for meat is messing up weather systems, killing animals and the planet and endangering the future generation,” said PETA India campaign coordinator Radhika Suryavanshi. “PETA India stands with them as they pave a better way forwards by calling on adults and their own peers to take the simple, lifesaving step of going vegan.”
Animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of global warming and human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, more than all forms of transport combined. The consumption of meat, eggs and dairy wreaks havoc on the environment and ecosystems since large tracts of forest land is cleared to make room for the rearing of cattle and other animals for human consumption.
