Pizza Hut Launches Vegan Beyond Meat Sausage Toppings In US And UK

Fast food giant Pizza Hut has partnered with plant-based meat manufacturer Beyond Meat to make two plant-based sausage toppings for their pizzas. While pepperoni is one of the most popular toppings when it comes to pizza, Beyond Meat ensures that the toppings can please vegans and non-vegans alike, especially when it comes to taste.

Sustainability is the buzzword of the decade. Lately, there have been considerable efforts made by giants like Coca Cola to replace single-use plastic packaging with sustainable alternatives. Last week, McDonald’s announced the launch of their vegan burger McPlant in the United States. Veganism is the future of the food industry especially as we face the looming threat of global warming and climate change. Many existing enterprises have acknowledged that and have diversified into plant-based ranges.

However, success comes at a great cost. Earlier this month, a new legislation was passed to ban the use of words like ‘almond milk’, ‘dairy free’ and ‘lactose free’ in the labelling of vegan products. Simultaneously, a bill to ban the use of words like ‘veggie burger’ and ‘sausages’ was introduced but failed to garner sufficient votes.

Pizza Hut’s new pizza will contain plant-based sausages but there’s still not the introduction of vegan cheese from the restaurant in the U.S, unlike Pizza Hut U.K. However, foodie vegans can customize their pizza’s and can even choose to exclude cheese entirely.

Beyond Italian Sausage Pizza: Pizza Hut’s classic cheese pizza topped with plant-based sausage crumbles.

The Great Beyond Pizza: a specialty pizza with veggie toppings and plant-based sausage.

Where to taste the pizza during trial phase?

The two pizzas are available across U.S. but only till trial supplies last. On the other hand, only Pizza Hut outlets in London, Luton and Liverpool will be retailing the two pizzas in U.K.
