Potato Milk Is Going To Be The New Big Thing In 2022 As A Non-dairy Alternative
14 November 2021
Maybe potatoes aren't just meant to be baked, mashed, fried, or cooked. Have you ever tried a glass of potatoes? Is it possible to drink these tubers? These potatoes can do more than just cook in your skillet. Here's all you need to know about it.
Many people find it difficult to give up dairy. Plant-based companies are looking at new dairy substitutes as individuals make healthier and more sustainable choices. While almond, soy, oat, and cashew milk are now the most popular, potato milk, a new addition, may appear to be a more sustainable and economical alternative.
POTATO MILK - A BETTER AND SUSTAINABLE OPTION
So, what makes potato milk the greatest, and why is it a better long-term option than other options? Potatoes are commonly farmed across the world and are far less expensive to raise than cashews and other commodities. It requires fewer resources than any other type of milk. "It takes "half as much land as oat milk and 56 times less land than almond milk for manufacturing," according to The Guardian's CEO.
RICH IN CALCIUM, B12 AND VITAMIN D
In terms of health advantages, potato milk is a strong source of B12 and vitamin D, two necessary nutrients for the human body. In addition, it is high in vitamins E, A, C, D, and K. It also contains high levels of calcium and iron, making it equal to ordinary dairy milk.
It also uses a lot less water to make than other plant milk. However, due to its lack of protein, there is no proof that potato milk can be regarded as a staple alternative to dairy and other plant milk choices unless it is fortified.
However, it provides a significant amount of calcium, which is one of the reasons why many people continue to consume dairy products. It is a terrific alternative for many, especially plant-based and vegan customers because it is soy-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, casein-free, and cholesterol-free.
WHAT BRANDS MAKE POTATO MILK CURRENTLY?
While there have been a few companies that have manufactured potato milk in the past, a Swedish company called Veg of Lund is gaining traction with its Dug brand, which uses a recipe based on research by Prof Eva Tornberg of Lund University.

Talking about the product, the brand says, “DUG drinks aren’t made by simply squeezing potatoes. There’s a lot more to it. The secret method for making DUG drinks is a patented emulsion of potatoes and rapeseed oil developed by Professor Eva Tornberg at Lund University in Sweden.”

"The drink is incredibly creamy, creates excellent foam in coffee, and just so happens to be the most sustainable alternative in the world," the statement continued. Fortunately, potatoes have no taste, making them the perfect alternative to soy because they have no added flavor. Currently, the brand exclusively sells it online and ships to the United Kingdom. They do, however, intend to grow throughout Europe.
