We're stoked as Italian fashion giant Prada has banned use of kangaroo skins. The Prada Group – which includes Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s, and Car Shoe – confirmed to Italian animal rights group Lega Antivivsezione Italiana (LAV) that it will no longer purchase any new kangaroo leather. The decision will spare these the Australian animals immense suffering. Apporximately 23 lakh kangaroos are reportedly killed every year for their skin.

In a note, the Prada Group stated that it no longer plans to purchase new kangaroo hides and confirms the non-use of this material in the collections for over a year. Prada joins the likes of Versace, Victoria Beckham, Chanel and Paul Smith in banning leather made from kangaroos. NGOs and activists are now calling on the group to commit to a total ban on all exotic skins, including ostrich, lizard, crocodile, alligator, and snake. Earlier this year, iconic British fashion label Paul Smith has announced a ban on exotic skins in all its future collections.

We've already seen a massive shift towards Conscious fashion with plant-based Leather made from fruit waste to Faux Leather brands to individuals even making it at home.
