Things Are About To Get 'better.' With Delicious Dairy-Free Creamy Spreads.
In today's times when supermarket aisles are packed with highly processed foods brimming with artificial colours and flavours, emulsifiers and preservatives but with little nutrition, we stumbled across an all-natural plant-based brand 'better.' and we can’t stop going gaga about it. Its range of non-dairy spreads are rich and creamy while being all-natural and high-protein: all thanks to better.’s co-founder Keertida who is a vegan chef trained in New York and has culinary experience at a Michelin star restaurant! These plant-based creamy spreads are made with locally grown non-GMO soy and contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Things get 'better' - the protein-packed spreads are free from trans-fat and cholesterol, low in carbs and contain no gluten - making the spreads super healthy!
Spread these on your morning toast, use as dips with crispy chips or slather onto hot parathas, these all-natural spreads are very versatile and went with almost everything we paired them with! We tried all four indulgent vegan spreads out there and here's our take on each…
CREAMY JALAPEÑO
A thick schmear of this on a warm toasty bagel and you’ll believe you’re in New York having bagels and (vegan) cream cheese specked with chunks of jalapeños. The addition of caramelised onions gives this spread an interesting texture, and makes for an addictive side to a pack of crispy potato chips.
HERB GARDEN
This one bottles the fresh aromas of an Italian nonna’s herb garden - basil, parsley, thyme and rosemary. A heady mix in the creamiest base to make a dainty-looking yet bursting-with-flavour spread. Lay it onto thick slices of bread and top with tomatoes to make bruschetta in a jiffy. Or mix into freshly boiled pasta and upgrade your regular pesto pasta. One dollop of this spread can be used to upgrade just about anything (we’ve even mixed it with rice and found that it works!).
BOLDY BEET
This one is a stunner - starting with the dreamy pink colour, the indulgent creamy texture to the most unique taste that combines nigella seeds (kalonji) with earthy beetroot. We liked this with crusty sourdough, and even made the softest pretty pink phulkas by mixing it straight into the phulka dough! This one isn’t an obvious crowd-pleaser but more like the subtle sidekick that eventually steals the show!
HOT SRIRACHA
We couldn’t wait to try this one! Who doesn’t like Sriracha right? This one's for those who like it hot. Not the tears-rolling-down-your-cheeks hot; a more balanced hot, with some tang that makes this spread irresistible with nachos, grilled (vegan) cheese sandwiches or even hot parathas.
Keertida co-founded better. along with Karan to make healthier, 'better' alternatives compared to what’s available in the grocery aisles. Having complementary backgrounds helped. Keertida did her Masters in Management from ESCP Europe (Paris) before she got trained to become a vegan chef in New York and Karan did his Masters in Sustainable Development from HEC Paris before he worked with smallholder farmers across India to help increase their incomes through sustainable agriculture. Together, they launched better. that has roots in sustainability and in all natural plant-based nutrition, devoid of unhealthy artificial additives. Almost all ingredients are locally sourced to minimise the carbon footprint and they’re also working on a recycling plan to ensure that nothing from their facility (unopened as well as empty returned jars) ends up in garbage landfills.
