Subway and Nestlé, two of the world's largest food corporations, have teamed up to introduce a brand new plant-based sandwich to Asian customers. Under Nestlé's Harvest Gourmet brand, the Plant-Based Chicken Schnitzel is produced with a soy protein foundation and comes with a salad selection. Subway Singapore is selling it across "all" of its 50 stores from now till January 2022.

The vegetarian chicken alternative costs S$7.50 for a six-inch and S$12.50 for a 12-inch. According to Subway Singapore, this is the first time the brand has used a plant-based chicken protein. Despite this, Subway provides a variety of vegan chicken choices around the world, including one that debuted in the United Kingdom last year.

In December, the Tastes Like Chicken (TLC) sub was introduced, and it was supposed to resemble roast chicken strips. And it comes on the heels of its award-winning Meatless Meatball Marinara, which was trialed the year before. Subway stores in Singapore are the latest to add plant-based options as demand grows, according to reports.

Burger King, for example, released a Plant-Based Whopper with a patty developed by The Vegetarian Butcher earlier this summer. The corporation claimed at the time of its inception that it was in response to a wave of requests from locals.
