The Farm Sanctuary Secures Nomination For 'The Internet's Highest Honor': The Webby Awards

The annual Webby Awards are presented to influential and creative internet figures, and the Farm Sanctuary, an animal rescue dedicated to end animal agriculture, has earned a nomination in ‘the internet’s highest honor’, as described by The New York Times.
This is a significant milestone for the representation of animals by the internet, as every year sees the nomination of a pet-oriented social media in the Webby’s Animal category, most of them focused on well-curated dogs. Even this year, the Farm Sanctuary is up against Rupawl the Doggie Drag Queen, Izzy The Frenchie, Mad Max Fluffy Road, and The Year of The Dogs.
However, out of 13,500 entries for this category, the celebration of animals has been extended to rescued farm animals like sheep, chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs and cows in 2021.
“For over 35 years, we have been fighting to make farm animals visible by helping people see them as the thinking, feeling individuals they are. A win would truly bring critical attention to these animals on an international scale – earning them the consideration they so desperately need and deserve. A vote for Farm Sanctuary is a vote for the billions of farm animals caught in the animal agriculture system,” said Marie Jones, Farm Sanctuary’s Communications Chief.
The Farm Sanctuary has about 519,000 followers on Instagram, and works towards animal advocacy and educating people about animal agriculture. The Sanctuary also houses the two cows rescued by Joaquin Phoenix in 2020.
The virtual Webby Award show will be held on 18 May, to be hosted by actress Jameela Jamil.
