Fitness influencer and ‘Badass Vegan’, along with Billie Eilish have teamed up to release a new documentary that throws light on racial injustices and food disparities in America. ‘They’re trying to kill us’, released online on Nov 11, 2021. Currently, the film is available on the movie’s official website for buying.

The film stars many vegan artists and is an intricate story of how injustice and inequality prevail in hip hop and urban culture among people of different races in the US. Directed by Keegan Kuhn, co-director of Cowspiracy and What the Health, and Lewis, the documentary talks about how corruption in the government and structural racism has impacted the lives of indigenous communities and the Blacks across America.

“It’s by design. It is not accidental that this is what’s in the hood, and this is what’s over there,” Ne-Yo says in the film’s trailer. “As long as [industries] can make their dollar, they don’t care if you live or die.”

This film, a follow-up of Cowspiracy and What The Health uncovers the food corporations and medical organizations who are trying to keep people sick and make profits. The movie takes us through a journey where Lewis goes out to discover why “Americans of Color suffer from disproportionately higher rates of chronic disease than their European American counterparts.” The movie shows how this is not just injustice through actions but how it has been imbibed in the design.

They’re Trying To Kill Us features interviews with various celebrities, activists, and doctors. Some of them are Mýa, Mathematics of the Wu-Tang Clan, Dame Dash, Ne-Yo, Billie Eilish, Sa-Roc, and many more.

“You put drugs in the communities, you put guns in the communities, you put the disease in the communities, you put poor food in the communities — all these things are designed to shorten your life expectancy,” TxTHEWAY says in the trailer. “Your health is not their main priority. They’re trying to keep you sick,” Grey adds.

Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Rosa Kincaid, Dr. Michele McMacken, and Dr. Milton Mills are among the notable vegan doctors featured in the documentary They're Trying To Kill Us. "The alcohol business, fast food industries, and cigarette industries target communities of color," Dr. Greger says in the trailer. "If you're healthy, they don't make a dollar," Dr. Barnard says.

The movie does a great job of educating viewers on intersectionality in social movements and talks about how climate justice and racial justice intersect in many ways. Comedian Preacher Lawson, content producer Tabitha Brown, and Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole, as well as New York City mayor-elect Eric Adams, Senator Brian Williams, and NBA players Chris Paul and John Salley, are all a part of the documentary.

WHERE TO WATCH

Currently, the documentary is available to watch on the official website of They’re Trying To Kill Us and is not available on any other OTT platform like Netflix. You can purchase the movie here for $20.
