Tigress Avni Killed, Sign The Petition To Save Her Cubs
Tigress Avni, dubbed a "man-eater" and believed to be behind the deaths of 13 villagers in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra, was killed late on Friday night, according to reports from news agency ANI.
DNA evidence links Avni to 5 of the 13 bodies found in the region, but there is no clear proof that she actually killed them.
Avni was first spotted in the area in 2012. Biologists and the Forest Department officials who have surveyed the area over the past few years say that there is only one other tiger there, a male - and his DNA was found on one of the bodies.
Activists at a #LetAvniLive protest | SIGN THE PETITION
After the Supreme Court issued shoot-at-sight orders in September, the Maharashtra Forest Department launched a massive hunt for the big cat, with sophisticated technology and a force of 200-odd personnel, along with trap cameras, thermal drones, sniffer dogs and a professional hunter.
Activists and concerned citizens launched the #LetAvniLive campaign, with a petition on Change.org to save her.
Avni is survived by her two cubs, who are 10 months old. You can sign the petition to keep her cubs safe HERE.
