In the past few years, several beauty brands have stopped testing their products on animals as consumers are looking for more ethically-manufactured products. Dove went cruelty-free in 2019, and Garnier recently announced that they will stop animal testing as well.

Another hair-care giant, TRESemme, has announced that it is going to end animal testing on all their products and ingredients worldwide. The Unilever-owned brand has been certified as cruelty-free by PETA and has become a part of PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies list.

However, it is to be noted that while the products may not be tested on animals, they might still contain animal-derived ingredients such as milk and lanolin.

Unilever has been vocal about banning animal testing and has stated its interest in expanding its plant-based range. In November 2020, the conglomerate set a €1 billion sales target to manufacture plant-based foods to make them more accessible, as part of its Future Foods initiative.

Moreover, Unilever launched a plant-based and cruelty-free personal care range called Love, Beauty and Planet in 2020. It has also invested in the Indian 100% vegan personal care brand Plum.
