Vegan Actor Joaquin Phoenix Condemns Dairy Industry In Powerful Oscars Speech

Our favourite vegan actor Joaquin Phoenix has swept the award season with his performance in Joker – and each time he has been on stage, he has spoken about veganism and animal rights.

The star condemned the dairy industry in his Oscars acceptance speech and detailed how all oppression is connected, saying that the idea that one race, species or gender could dominate another is inherently wrong.

He went on to say that humans have become disconnected from the natural world and merely look at the Earth as a means to satisfy material needs, plundering natural resources. “We go to the natural world and plunder it for its resources,” he said.

The most stirring part of his speech was when he spoke about the horrors of the dairy industry.

“We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. And then we take her milk which is intended for her calf and put it in our coffee and our cereal."
