Ganesh Chaturthi isn't complete without modak. This steamed sweet dumpling filled with coconut and jaggery is a festive favourite.
Guess what? It's super simple to veganise it. Once you swap out the ghee for a neutral plant-based oil, you're good to go!
And with sweet vendors like Hari Prasad Mithai Wale taking bulk orders for vegan modaks, you can send them to friends and loved ones all over the country! Hari Prasad Mithai will deliver a box of 42 modaks (made with dry fruits) for Rs.600. You can also order by weight, at Rs. 800 per kg.

Ingredients
- 2-3 vegan dark chocolate bars
- ½ cup almonds and cashews
- ½ cup raisins and cranberries
- You’ll also need a modak shaped chocolate mould
- This recipe makes 6-8 modaks
Method
- Step 1: Begin with grating the vegan chocolate so that it will melt quicker. Put the chocolate over a double boiler, making sure no moisture gets into it. Alternatively, you can also put it in the microwave for bursts of 15-20 secs stirring in between till chocolate melts completely.
- Step 2: Lightly grease the modak shaped chocolate mould with coconut oil to make sure the chocolate doesn't stick.
- Step 3: Pour the melted chocolate into the moulds.
- Step 4: Break the almonds, cashews, raisins and cranberry into chunks to fit into the mould.
- Step 5: Add the different dry fruits into the moulds before the chocolate sets.
- Step 6: Freeze for 4-5 hours.
- Remove the modaks from the mould and they are ready to be served.
We hope our delicious recipes and recommendations will serve you well this festive season - have a happy, cruelty-free Ganesh Chathurthi!
