It must be resolution time as the end of the year is approaching soon! As people vow to focus on their health, a 31-day health challenge is the perfect way to start the new year. Some people try intermittent fasting, while others participate in keto diets. But if you want to improve your health and the planet around you, think about participating in Veganuary and adopting a vegan lifestyle for the month of January. For the whole month, participants must abstain from all animal products. It has gained momentum since being founded in 2014. For the uninitiated, the global movement known as Veganuary, which encourages people to try going vegan for the entire month of January and beyond, is getting ready to mark its tenth anniversary. Read on for a sneak peek into the upcoming campaign for January 2023.

All about Veganuary

It all began with an annual campaign called Veganuary, conducted by a non-profit organisation in the UK. It sought to inspire participants to adopt a plant-based way of life. The non-profit organisation called Veganuary promotes and helps businesses and individuals switch to a plant-based diet in order to improve the health of millions of people, protect the environment, and stop animal suffering. It is supported by a lot of celebrities and uses humour, hummus, and the desire to encourage change for the better in the areas of health and the environment. Every year since the event started in 2014, more people have taken part.

Wellness Benefits of Veganuary

The environment and animal welfare both benefit from leading a vegan lifestyle, which can also reduce your grocery costs. But it also has an effect on your health by reducing your likelihood of developing chronic illnesses that can be fatal. Your heart health can be improved by eating plant-based diets, and those advantages increase when you cut out animal products. According to research, vegetarians have a 24% lower risk of dying from heart disease than meat eaters. One explanation is that protein sources derived from plants don't include cholesterol, a fatty molecule that can accumulate in blood vessels and impair blood flow. Additionally, a vegan diet lowers blood pressure.

Head of Veganuary India shares his two cents on the initiative

Prashanth Vishwanath, Head, Veganuary India opined, "This is the time for hope, change, and action. Whatever your plans for 2023 are, trying vegan is a great place to start, for health, the planet and the animals. Veganuary understands the science of behaviour change and brings world-class support and resources for you to have a great vegan experience. You can do this while enjoying most of your favourite Indian recipes, engaging with celeb vegans and being part of a community that is trying vegan at the same time as you."

Actors Amy Aela, Sadaa Syed, Soundarya Sharma, Arvind Krishna, Sneha Ullal, singer Anushka Manchanda, musician Monica Dogra, mountaineers Prakriti Varshney and Kuntal Joisher, and professional tennis player Vishwajeet Sangle are among the ten well-known Indian vegans who are supporting Veganuary on its tenth anniversary worldwide.

Popular Indian vegans voice their support for the campaign

Contestant Soundarya from "Bigg Boss 16" discusses going vegan and how it's possible to flourish no matter what. She encouraged everyone who was attempting to become vegan in January by sending them words of support. Arvind Krishna went on to add, "I'm vegan for the environment, the animals, for my health and wellbeing. I'm elated to be joining Veganuary as an ambassador and I hope my active lifestyle inspires many to try vegan".

Reflecting on her decision to be an ambassador for the campaign, musician Monica Dogra shared, "I turned vegan after watching a documentary about the way that eggs are produced, and also hearing information on the environmental impact of factory farmed dairy. I had already been vegetarian for years for similar reasons. I recognize it's a process, but it is one that is easier than ever today, and one that should surely be considered by the privileged to help lower impact on the planet and promote compassionate and mindful lifestyle."

An insight into the impact that the campaign hopes to make

The campaign's theme this year is "hope," and more Indians are being included, giving it a desi spin. The campaign will offer free tools and 31-day coaching emails, as well as an updated celebrity e-cookbook with recipes from international and Indian celebrities like Dr. Jane Goodall and Venus Williams, a new podcast series, and a new starter kit with more Indian recipes. It will also address frequently asked questions about veganism.

The campaign, which attracted a sizable fan base in its previous year (2022), is anticipated to entice a sizable number of people to sign up to try going vegan for January now that registrations have started!
