Why Miss Universe 2020 Winner Andrea Meza Being Vegan Is A Win For The Plant-Based Movement
17th May 2021
At the just-concluded 69th Edition of the Miss Universe pageant, the winner has been announced as a 26-year-old Andera Meza from Mexico.
Born and raised in Chihuahua City, the eldest of three daughters, Andrea studied to be a Software Engineer. She has been competing and winning pageants since 2017. She is also a vocal supporter of women’s rights and inclusions and works with organizations to end gender-based violence. She is also a fitness enthusiast who practices CrossFit and extreme sports, like rappel and sandboarding.
For her statement in the final round, she said, “We live in a society that more and more is more than advanced, and as we advance as a society, we’ve also advanced with stereotypes. Nowadays, beauty isn’t only the way we look. For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirit, but in our hearts and the way that we conduct ourselves. Never permit anyone to tell you that you’re not valuable.”
This is a definite push for the plant-based movement. With the growing numbers of people becoming aware, especially over the past year and a half, there are more and more people willing to give up meat and dairy for health and environmental reasons. With the news of the winner of Miss Universe 2020 being vegan, the movement will get a boost with more 'woke' and 'conscious' influencers.
