Zostel Agra Launches Vegan Meals, More Properties To Follow!
This is big news – one of the leading locations of India’s largest backpacker hostel chain, Zostel, is officially vegan-friendly!
Zostel Agra has rolled out two vegan meals a week and will add vegan dishes to the permanent menu as well.
The initiative is a combined effort of Zostel Agra and animal rights organization Vegan Outreach, which worked with them to update and upgrade their menu. (Vegan Outreach partners with brands and businesses to help them veganise their offerings – they helped global pizza chain Piola add vegan cheese to their menu last year.)
“The demand for vegan food in India is growing and Zostel Agra is setting an example we hope to see similar businesses and institutions follow.”
Richa Mehta, Outreach Coordinator, Vegan Outreach
With only 2 vegan meals a week (which works out to an average of 5,200 vegan meals a year), the property will reduce meat and dairy consumption by 30%.
Next on the cards? To expand these vegan meals and menu options to all other locations across India.
Zostel follows a #TravelGreen policy, encouraging travellers to lower their carbon footprint by avoiding plastic, reducing waste of any kind and conserving water – and vegan meals go a long way in saving water and other resources. Meat and dairy produce a mere 37% of the protein we consume but uses up 83% of all the world's farmland.
